I just love new patterns! I always feel such joy introducing a fun new design
I made the above pair with Plymouth Galway worsted weight wool. I dyed it Lemon-Lime Unsweetened Kool-Aid and some neon green liquid food coloring. This is the first time I kettle dyed yarn. I soaked my white yarn in warm water with a glug of vinegar (1/2 cup?) while I prepared my color. I mixed the colorings in a glass bowl with maybe 2 c. warm water and a smaller amount of vinegar (maybe 1/4 c ?). I then put some water in a pot on the stove. Once it was warm (not boiling or even simmering, just hot), I added my yarn. I poured the coloring over it and then stirred. I let it sit on the stove (still turned on to low) until the water was clear (you can use a small cup or large spoon to get some water and see what color it is).
I really like the kettle dye as it gave such a nice variation on solid. Lot’s of areas of light and dark make it interesting without making it too gradated to do colorwork or cables (or add a monster face).I was so excited to knit it up!
After I finished the longies and the face my Mom said they reminded her of gummie candy - and we all agreed. The name stuck and now Butt Knits “Gummie” is available here. I’ve grouped it in various ways. You can purchase it by itself for a mere $3 (not bad for a color chart and full instructions including tutorials on the embroidery). Or, you can purchase it with the Basic Pattern (a savings of over 10%). For even more fun I’ve grouped it with my other monster face, Gossamer, as well. I hope you enjoy this fun little face as much as we have!
In honor of my new pattern I have the Basic Pattern, Biker Babe, and Cable Back patterns all on sale for just $5.
You may have noticed that the longies above are made with an elastic waistband rather than the traditional ribbing. I have recently fallen in love with elastic bands. They make diaper changes on a toddler sooo much quicker & easier. Dare I say; I may never go back to ribbing. :-0 I’ve put a new tutorial on how to make any of the ButtKnits patterns with an elasticised waist instead of ribbing. It is written for my patterns, but you can probably apply it to others.
On other news…
The last two DiaperKit orders are shipping today. Our moving truck will be here on Monday morning and we will be heading out most likely on Tuesday very early. It has begun to snow here which is just uber exciting for my children. The weather man said we were going to get a foot of snow, but it’s barely an inch. It’s hard to believe that by the end of next week we’ll be in our new home, where it’s been in the high 70s and low 80s all week. What a shock!
